We don't know about you, but we're feeling 22
You have taken the intimidating and thrilling leap from college to career!
Congratulations!
While trying to find your footing in the business world, here are a few words of wisdom...
1. Early in your working life, you’re defined by the company you keep, so choose
wisely. It’s very easy to pick the company with the biggest name or the biggest
paycheck, but consider how the company offers and supports growth
professionally, and personally.
2. Appreciate criticism. It is very easy to be offended or defensive when
receiving feedback. Instead view it as an opportunity for growth, and
development.
3. Always keep the student mentality. Constantly soak up as much information
and experiences possible. Seeking knowledge can also help build relationships with co-
workers. It's important to maintain the student mentality that you had in college, mostly because the
person that always wants to learn more is the one that earns promotions over someone who only has
the job just to have it.
4. Be aware of your weaknesses. Recognizing what areas of life need
improvement can become stressful or frustrating. Instead of running from
them, be honest with yourself, and take serious steps to improve. In doing so
you will continue to blossom and continue to add to your skill set.
5. Learn to rebound. When life throws a curve ball, become resourceful enough
to handle it, and continue on. It is also crucial not to beat yourself up about it.
Perceive it as a learning experience, and get on with it.
Keeping these tips in mind, you will break out your own shell and allow yourself to start your career in the strongest way possible!
